Last sea horse and pipe fish
order arrives tonight from the Seahorse Sanctuary, Mic and Wendy
are closing down that side of their business. Fortunately they
are continuing to support the the continuation of supply through
another organization. Its sad for us to see as their horses have
been outstanding quality and a credit to their abilities, we can
only hope the new arrangements can compare.
-
Things are progressing with our
own aspirations for a aquaculture facility, we are hoping now
its only a few short weeks away from fruition, with all known
hurdles now cleared out the way to allow licensing to
proceed.

July 15
-
We now have sea water in the
newest system, still tweaking chemistry and automating but we
are now updating stocks again more regularly.
-
We have had excellent spawning
and recruitment of Turbo snails we are selling limited numbers
again but it will be a while before the little ones are big
enough to be sold in larger numbers.
-
Very happy to add a new species
to our cultured fish list. Orchard Dottiebacks are now a regular
item with a great price available for pairs of $195.
-
Next Friday I have an all day
meeting in Perth, so will not be able to ship for Saturday 24th
July airport collect orders.

Our first systems have now been
running for 6 months, finally maturing. This has lead to stable
mysid populations so they are again available from our
"cultures" page. Also we have a culture of Spaghetti algae
running again so it too can be found there. We have yet to make
up a green water and rotifer system so they will be some time
before we can supply them again. The new system will run several
DSB fuge combo's we plan to culture a number of new algae's in
that should start appearing over the following months.

It has been good like the old
days shipping regularly the last several weeks. I hope we made
some happy faces with the cheap clams. I wont be updating the
WYSIWYG page for a few weeks now, stocks are running low and I
need to devote extra time to the farm. The first grow system is
close to start up, this will enable me to move my private
collection of corals (our brood) out of harms way allowing for
more frequent and larger wild collections.... till we gain
approvals for the farm. We still have the sea horses pipes etc
on the cultured specimens page and what's left on the WYSIWYG
page shipping will remain as normal unless otherwise stated
here.

The shipping option of delivering
live goods to your door has been working so well it has
surprised us. Do ensure to keep the feed back coming of how well
or not the animals arrive. If we don't hear from you we assume
the delivery is a success.
-
We are continuing to receive live
rock requests, we don't have licensing to culture any or
capacity to hold much wild collect rock without the risk of
brining in any unwanted guests. For now we are not in a position
to supply any. We do however have a 5000kg quota to be collected
this calendar year. We will talk to interested parties over
large quantities to be collected to order.

We are pretty much back into a
position we can now trade regularly, shipping every Tuesday (To
your door and airport collect) and every Saturday (Airport
collect only). Not quite as normal still busily setting up new
tanks all the time but at least now we are starting to get away
collecting every now and again while we await our aquaculture
licensing. I will keep adding items to the WYSIWYG page from now
on a regular basis.

We are back from the recent trip
with a number of clams. These are all collected at small sizes
for sustainability reasons. All are 4 - 14 months old natural
mortalities are higher for small clams while they are vulnerable
to smaller predators. Plus small clams are far more adaptable to
aquarium conditions. I have listed some on the WYSIWYG page, I
have plenty more so if you miss first choice I will email a
picture of a second similar option for you to decide on.
-
Don't forget to check out the
cultured specimens page we are adding more species as they
become available.

We are back from our Easter break and ready to go. I have
started to list a few items on the WYSIWYG page and a few fish
on the cultured specimens page. Not a lot yet we are still
moving fish and tanks so we are very disorganized. I will
contact each customer about a suitably mutual shipping day as
orders arrive. We have also placed an order for new stocks of
Peppy's and horses, we expect these in around a week.

-
The Perth storms have given us a good test of
the auto back up power supply. We lost power
for two days and the phone line has only just been fixed late on
Friday.
-
We are away over the Easter week once we are
back we will start listing products for sale.

- Monday March 15
- Some pictures of progress to date.

Our main aim of the farm is to culture inverts though we have
installed 10 larva rearing tanks we will install the grow out areas
to match latter when our approvals have passed.

These are the first occupants born on Saturday.

All still a little messy but this 9 tanks are for brood stock
clowns mixed with cardinals to begin with and the plan is to
propagate rose BTA from these systems.

The first of our existing brood have already begun moving into
the new home.

This is the Quarantine area 5 x 400ltr tanks, not really set up
for fast growth. This is just a staging area for quarantine
inspections we will separate corals tissue from the base and
reattach new artificial base in the coral grow out areas.

22,000ltr tank arrived today for FW top off. Once the approvals
are through we are installing a further 250,000ltr tank behind the
second room. We estimate evaporation will total 97,000ltrs from just
the first room per annum once all the systems are running.

All the waste from the farm runs out to this hole that on
approval will be lined to grow out artemia for our own use and
sales.

- Friday March 12
- We have found out our aquaculture licensing will be delayed
by around three months due to some re zoning changes that have
been delayed at the ministers office. We will continue to on
sell cultured products and collect our own wild caught list from
the north west of WA until we can sell our own produce from the
farm. There is no more shipping now till after the Easter break.
We will be away interstate over Easter when we get back finally
we will restock and start up our normal trading again.

- Wednesday March 3
- Next available shipping days will be this Saturday the 6th
for airport collect deliveries and Tuesday the 9th for to your
door deliveries. We are fast running out of horses pipes and
peppy's remaining stock goes to the first orders received. We
have started gassing up some of the new systems at the farm.
While we now start to move the live stock across we don't have
capacity to also keep up with orders. We wont be shipping again
now till after the Easter break.

- Monday February 22
- We have almost completed the electrical installation side of
the farm only a few air conditioners and switches are left to
complete, all the circuits are installed and powered up. This
means we can now prepare some of the systems for start up. First
systems will be the quarantine and fish brood stock systems.
This will allow us to move our existing brood stock to the farm
site in preparation for when the first grow out systems come on
line. All our brood stock will be put through the quarantine
before entering the grow out areas. Our aim is to prevent any
problematic items like Aptisa or Briopsis from entering the
culture areas. We are also starting up some experimental
plankton reactors to feed into our systems. We will give more
detail in time on our experiment our aim is to create automated
systems that can feed live enriched rotifers, artemia or
copepods direct to the corals.

So far the to your door option has worked
reasonably well. We have had a few problems with AAE not leaving
parcels as per instructions if you are not there. Even so 48
hour deliveries have resulted in good results and we have
implemented new measures to avoid any future parcels being taken
back to the depot. Next available shipping days will be;
-
We have now put down a few batches of Banngai
cardinals for future brood stock we would like to diversify our
genetic make up as they all come from one parentage. If you are
in Perth and have some CB Banngai's we would like to either
arrange a swap or sale. Please contact peter on 0427941126 or
fish@oceanarium.com.au

I have just realized the links to the
propagation supplies have not worked, you can now follow the
path through the products page to order prop rocks.

The
magnifica did complete a division called a pedal laceration,
unfortunately I missed any photo opportunity of the final
separation. A small hairy crab started eating the new division and
caused its demise. The magnifica is now showing signs of a second
division so hopefully we will manage some better success at
documenting and completing the division this time round.

- Sunday February 7
- We can manage to ship this week Saturday 13th arrival
airport collect only. I have added the pricing to the sea horses
on the cultured specimens page. At this stage its only a
opportunity to order sea horses. We will keep a delivery day
available every other week from now on. Once the new systems
start up we will add more products.
- The electrical fit out of the farm has halted, we wait for
some missing switching gear for our back up generator. This
needs to be done in Melbourne and we don't expect much to happen
this week.
- Tuesday February 4
- We have now installed the back up generator and now the
electrical fit out has begun of the first propagation room.
-
We
have never successfully done propagation on fungia coral
species before, for the last two years we have held a damaged
orange fungia disc in the belief it would eventually produce us
anthocauli. Anthocauli are daughter colonies formed as a
reproductive strategy when the parent colony decays. A few moths
back 20 babies appeared and are now growing quite well. We will
never have large quantities available of these but we will be
able to supply a few on a on going regular basis as once formed
the anthocauli continue to produce ongoing clones.
- We have now updated and published 8 care sheets from the old
web site, as time allows we will continue to move across pages
from the old site that provides care, information promoting
success or encourages propagation.

- Thursday January 28
- Sea horses arrive tonight, but looks like we have lots of
work at the farm next week so we will need to delay listing them
for a week or so. We need to do some trenching and have the
generator positioned for the electrician who starts next week.
- I have also listed some propagation rocks on a new page for
propagation supplies. There will be lots more products to come
on this page with time. We will be purchasing all our propagation supplies in bulk to achieve good
pricing for our farm and will listed at our best prices. Follow the links
through from our products button on the left.

- Tuesday January 26
- It looks like it will still be some time before we can
resume all our normal sales. We will start to bring back certain
items as time goes on. We have a new shipment of sea horses
pipes etc arriving from Seahorse Sanctuary later this week. Once
they have settled in we will list the sea horse products
available for shipping.
- I added a new link to ARKive a organization creating a multi
media data base on endangered species. There is a lot of
interesting information on endangered marines including ones
collected for our hobby. We recently donated a picture of a
Acanathstrea lordhowensis for their use.

- Thursday January 21
- The anemone continues to look more like it will form an
asexual division. The anemone has formed more twists between the
two oral discs and the original is now stretching itself
away from the division creating a tearing of the tissue
separating them. In the second picture you can see a white area
on the right this is a tear in the flesh.

This picture shows how it now
sits alongside the main oral disc. It is receiving full light and
has started to colour up. It was feed some shrimp yesterday which it
ate so seemingly has fully formed mouth now as well.

|
- Tuesday January 12
- The magnifica continues to indicate it will split into two
individuals. This is quite interesting as there is little
information available to indicate these anemones use this as a
reproduction strategy. It has continued to form a more defined
second oral disc and now a twist between to two oral discs
leaving only a slim margin of flesh connecting them. un
fortunately I left the camera at the coral farm so this picture
is from a mobile phone. I will be sure to take the camera to get
better pictures of the process.

We have now finalized the new option for a
delivery to your street address for small 5kg parcels. This
option is only available for a Tuesday delivery during business
hours. Check the order form out for more details.
-
I took some photo's today of our magnifica anemone
we have had here for many years, it is forming a second oral disc.
These anemones are not reputed to asexually reproduce we will
continue to see what happens and post pictures of anything to
update.

We trust everyone has had an enjoyable Xmas and
wish a prosperous new year to all.
-
I have published the sea horse care sheet today,
over time we will revise all the care sheets from the old web
site and also continue to create new care sheets as time allows.
-
A few pictures of the construction of our first
propagation room. it has 200mm insulation since the build we
have experienced temps of 45C and have seen a temp swing of only
+ / - 1C the room temperature is 24-25C.
